Congratulations. I always thought that the story about a man who took a mug out from Mauna Loa was just a legend.
The design is from a Papua Nueva Guinea, Ramu river area shield.
The original artifact is in the NY Museum of Primitive Art.
In this mug the design is upside down
I got one with different colors and the design in the righ position.

Where did you get this? I've asked at both Quicksilver stores on Maui and one on Oahu and no one (even the managers) have even heard of it. Nice score!

Very cool mug. I've heard of tiki bars in military installations before, but this is the first mug from one that I've seen, that I can recall. So funny that it looks so exactly like the Harvey's mug -- I wonder how that came to be?

wow. Its one of my favorite old mugs and done with a nice old treatment and its Quiksilver, which is a Yahoo screen name of mine. You will have to tell me where it get one.
