My story isn’t much different from anyone else's. I was born and still reside in So. California. I share a common fondness with so many of you that spans from Disneyland to Tiki Mugs. My collection started as a small girl. I collected rabbits' feet, souvenir pennants and had a few Tiki Mugs, glassware and barware pieces my parents brought home from restaurants. The colorful, lucky rabbit's foot and pennant fascination thank goodness wore off quickly. However, most of the barware pieces including the Tiki Mugs were all but lost between the 1971 Sylmar Quake and the Northridge Quake in 1994. My collection and obsession renewed itself in the 1st year or so of eBay, it made it easy to to obtain mugs from all over the globe I strictly collect mugs, decanters, flasks, shots, bowls and a few choice glassware and stemware pieces. The eBay habit and the computer had to go! I relied on garage sales, thrift shops, retail stores, bars and restaurants for mugs to add to my collection. I didn’t realize how out of touch I had become or how popular collecting Polynesian art, mugs etc. had become when in April of ’06 I bought a new computer and wow! Because I did rely so much on retail stores I became a great fan of Tiki Farm. I dig a traditional look but am finding myself liking so many of the modern tiki mugs as long as they are “Tiki or Hawaiian". In my home we drink out of modern Trader Vic’s Coconuts, Accoutrement's, Pony Express and Dynasty mugs (in other words mostly p.o.s.’s). I personally drink out of an emerald green Tiki Farm “Mad Marq” for sentimental reasons. When I entertain I serve out of Vintage Trader Vic pieces. My favorite mugs? I love custom designed made to order pieces like my “TuKi tuKi HuT” by tiki tOny and other works by artists like Gecko, Cass McClure, Babalu, and Tiki Diablo to name a few. My most sought after vintage tiki mug is a Tulsa Trade Winds War God. My most wished for bowl or art piece is the "Skipper Kent's Prototype Bowl" and the "Vicious Virgin Bowl with One Arm in View". I enjoy seeing the collections & meeting so many of you! I urge all of you to share what you have with words and pictures. Some collectors think that showing what they have creates more competition and they are reluctant to post pictures. However, we should all remember this site chronicles TIKI HISTORY and your collections help shape it! I am a Bartender at the Tonga Hut in No. Hollywood Ca.
