Items Designed by Stella Bodey
Stella Bodey, a.k.a. Stella Spurlin Bodey
Stella Bodey (1905-1971 ?) ran Spurlin Ceramics in Lynwood, CA. She designed mugs and bowls for several places, including The Islander and The Tahitian in Los Angeles and the Mahi Mahi in Tennessee. Spurlin's was really just a small operation but nonetheless they were one of the first to supply mugs and bowls to the Pop Polynesian industry in the 1960's. They made mugs for some of the most famous tiki bars of the era. Spurlin's mugs have an amateur look to them but in actuality they are a seminal part of the tiki fad of the last century. Many of their mugs were made in conjunction with Oceanic Arts and offered to their commercial customers.
