1962 Seattle Worlds Fair, Rare
|
|
Rare, no makers mark "Bumatay" look. Pink, back says '62 Seattle Worlds Fair has a sculpted "Space Needle" as well as what looks like crossed Sky Lights & a monorail track. Awesome mug so happy to have it. Others in various colors. I have heard there was a booth at the fair where you made your own tiki mug, but how would they have fired it at a fairgorunds while you waited? I'm not conveniced it's a hobbist mug? Maybe a small manufacturer? This mug appears to have been a promotional hand painted hobbyist item from the World's Fair in Seattle in 1962. It takes its design from a tiki commonly designed and carved by Andres Bumatay. This mug's tiki has striking, large eyes, and a small fish-like mouth.
