Juxtapoz magazine dubbed Billy Shire, “the Peggy Guggenheim of Lowbrow.” Shire opened the La Luz de Jesus Gallery in 1986. He saw the gallery as a place for a new breed of art to be displayed, including Tiki art. This bank was a surprise tribute to one of the most influential figures behind the Lowbrow (and, subsequently, Tiki) art scene. This bank was first presented at the It's All About the Tiki show at La Luz de Jesus on November 22nd, 2003.
