Bought at Trader Vics Thailand in 2001 - the manager really gouged me on the price, but I wanted a Tiki Mug souvenir! Hey, I was on my honeymoon.... Go here for more pics: http://www.christophermerritt.com/family/TraderVicsThailand/Trader_Vics.html Note: some of the links on that page no longer work....

This is a copy of a vintage Otagiri mug. The mug is of a stylized moai, more narrow at the top, and having distinctive large, rounded eyeballs. The glaze on this mug is an even honey-brown, while the vintage version is two-toned, with beige overlaid with a darker streaky brown with a white interior and concave base.

Yeah - and I like those "Marquesan" bug-eyes too!

I always love this mug. I got mine in the UK in a thrift shop, but have no idea where it originated. Anyway, it seems to combine the generic with a bit of mystery, and that's why it's alway's a firm favourite.

No - it's not... I don't think it is exclusive to Trader Vics Thailand - just a generic one they were using for drinks.... Too bad I paid so much for it!
