Friday March 15th at 12:00 noon Pacific Time, you’ll have a rare opportunity to own 1 of only 25 certified test glazed Ika Ariki Tiki mugs designed by our pal Philippe Tilikete! In working to isolate an open edition glaze suitable for this design, we ran a test batch of 25 mugs to gauge the reactivity level of the glaze in various positions in the kiln. It turns out this glaze is highly unpredictable but it is still cool nonetheless. Designed by Philippe Tilikete (designer of Whack Whak ca. 2012, Hula’s Modern Tiki ca. 2009 & our Modern Primitve mug ca. 2009), the idea for the design of Ika Ariki came together after I spoke with Philippe wanting to do a simpler Moai design for a new glaze we were testing. He decided to go with a cartoonish approach since so many classic Moai Tiki mugs are already in existence... big jaw, big ears, small body etc. - that was the way to go. Traditional elements were also added from the Rapa Nui culture, like the fish he’s cradling in his arms and the Birdman on the reverse of his head. Also fun to note is that one of our youngest collectors, Aiden Gertsen, was given the task of naming this fellow and his research led him to naming it Ika Ariki, which can be translated as “The Fish God”. The glaze that I am referring to above is the glaze that you see here. We have decided to go with a different glaze in the future as the reactivity range of this glaze is very unpredictable. Having said that, please know that no 2 mugs are alike, which is cool! Ika Ariki measures 7 ˝” in height and has a 13 oz. capacity. 10/25

This is a mug shaped like a Moai with a cartoonish appearance... big jaw, big ears, small body, etc. Traditional elements were also added from the Rapa Nui culture, like the fish he’s cradling in his arms and the Birdman on the reverse of his head. The reactivity range of this limited glaze is very unpredictable and no two mugs are alike. Young Aiden Gertsen, was given the task of naming this fellow and his research led him to naming it Ika Ariki, which can be translated as “The Fish God”. Came with signed card for this limited edition.
